ACNM is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 ACNM Election. Thank you to all of our candidates and to our members, who stepped up and voted in high numbers!  You are shaping ACNM priorities. Join us in congratulating our new leaders, who will be sworn into office at the 64th ACNM Annual Meeting & Exhibition, May 18-22. And if you’re attending the Annual Meeting, make sure to stop by our “Meet the Officers of ACNM” event, Wednesday, May 22, 10:30-noon, outside Maryland Ballroom A.

President-Elect: Cathy Collins-Fulea
Cathy Collins-Fulea, CNM, DNP, MSN, FACNM, has been in active clinical practice since 1981, spending her career serving the women of inner city Detroit. She joined the Henry Ford Health System and grew the in-hospital midwifery practice she helped to open into one of the most respected in the state, leading 22 midwives delivering at 2 hospitals and practicing in 12 outpatient centers. Cathy has been active professionally on both the state and national levels with ACNM, chairing many committees and serving in numerous capacities, most recently in 2 terms as Vice President. In 2003, she received the prestigious Dorothea Lang Pioneer
Award. 

Treasurer: Cara Krulewitch
Cara Krulewitch, CNM, PhD, FACNM has supported midwifery and women’s health throughout her career. In recognition of her achievements and contribution to midwifery, she was inducted as a Fellow of the College in 2008 and the American Academy of Nursing in 2016. She is well qualified to serve as ACNM treasurer with experience serving as treasurer for the West Virginia Nurse’s Association District 5, a member of the Finance Committee, and elected treasurer for the American Midwifery Certification Board.

Region I Representative: Karen Jefferson
Karen Jefferson, LM, CM, FACNM has co-owned a private practice in New York City for 16 years, attending births at home. She is currently earning a doctorate in Midwifery at Jefferson (Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University). She has served as  President of the New York State Association of Licensed Midwives and is Chair of the ACNM Committee for Advancement of Midwifery Practice.

Region III Representative: Elois Edge
Elois Edge, CNM, DNP, MSN, CLC has practiced as a nurse-midwife since 1998, serving a low-income, high-risk mostly African American/Hispanic population. Elois has served in numerous capacities to improve marked disparities such as the Improving Birth Outcomes Coalition of Southwest Georgia, the Southwest Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition, and the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Force. With more than 2 decades of childbirth and breastfeeding activism, she is a prominent midwife leader on ACNM’s national stage.

Nominating Committee Member: Lisa Hanson
Lisa Hanson, CNM, PhD, FNP-BC, FACNM, FAAN is a Professor and Director of the Marquette University College of Nursing Midwifery Program. She practiced full-scope midwifery for 29 years at the Aurora Midwifery and Wellness Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Lisa served as the chair of the Division of Research (DOR) for 2 terms and as DOR Section Chair for 2 terms. She currently serves on the Nominating Committee for the ACNM Fellowship and as Vice President of the Wisconsin ACNM Affiliate.

Nominating Committee Member: Nena R. Harris
Nena R. Harris, PhD, FNP-BC, CNM, CNE  is an Assistant Professor at Frontier Nursing University, where she has taught since 2006. She is currently the course coordinator for the Women’s Health and Childbearing course for FNP students and chair of the FNU Institutional Review Board. Nena is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health and was awarded the ACNM Varney Participant Award in 2004.


2019/2020 Election Cycle Opens in April! Plan now for the 2019/2020 ACNM Election cycle! Nominations will open in April 2019 for the following positions: Vice President, Region IV, V, VII Representatives and Nominating Committee (2 open positions). Thank you!
