Share your story: What does midwifery mean to you? What would you like to be celebrated in the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife?

Midwifery means having the privilege to be with women. In the year 2020, I would like to see the goal of health equity in birth be established.

Tell us about your background: Which midwifery education program did you attend or are currently attending? What are your areas of specialty? Who mentored you along the way in your career? What inspired you to become a midwife?

I have been a midwife for over 30 years. I was inspired by the health disparities in the black community and wanting to make a difference. I had the opportunity as a nurse to spend time with a black midwife, Melita Jordan, and that experience sealed the deal for me. This is what I want to do, be a midwife.
